Nathaniel Gillette
Choral, an immersive audiovisual experience installed at 150 N Riverside, was made by Chicago based duo localstyle and a team of local artists. Through virtual representation of both realistic and fantastic coral beings, the piece attempts to shine a light on coral reefs as a vibrant part of our global ecosystem.
On this project, I was responsible for most of the post-production processes including but not limited to: compositing, effects, timeline assembly, 2D animation, color correction, and encoding, as well as some elements of 3D modeling, texturing, particle simulation, rendering, cinematography, and lighting. Many thanks to Marlena Novak and Jay Alan Yim who brought me into this project and brought this project into the world.
Springer chapter concerning the piece here.
A site-tailored version of Choral was also shown by Art on the Mart from April 9 to June 29, 2022 in downtown Chicago.
